You won't be surprised to learn the name comes from Queen Victoria's Scottish estate. The suburb si made up of the hillsides leading down to a bay with two beaches, Edwards to the north and Balmoral to the south. It started rather humbly as an artists colony of tents and shacks, but with the dawn of the 20th century, its natural beauty and proximity to the city drew affluent with a discerning eye. The artists departed and their rough dwellings gave way to fine family homes.

Balmoral has long been amongst the world's most exclusive harbourside suburbs, with a blend of styles to mark its prominence. Its slopes that run down to the beach have stately Edwardian mansions, resting comfortabley beside contemporary architecture, and elegant apartments built between the World Wars.

Only 8.5km north of the CBD, and either a swift drive via the Bridge or Harbour tunnel, or on the plentiful buses on Military Road.
